Is there any children’s book character as curious as that little monkey George. I don’t think so. The other day I was leaving for a work trip and spent some time with Eva reading Curious George: Visits a Toy Store. Our friends Amy and Ryan and their son watch the TV show about curious George. We’re trying to keep Eva from TV as long as possible so reading to her is what she has right now. She did sit still for most of the book too.
Read to Me Dad Ratings
- Story - Good - Standard Curious George fare. George gets into trouble and it all works out in the end.
- Re-Read-ability - Good. I think as Eva begins to identify with characters she will enjoy George very much.
- Illustrations - Excellent - George is classic and the books and illustrations are as well.
- Message - Good - As long as you are a cute monkey you can get away with anything.
- Plot - Good - Standard for George. George causes some trouble but in the end things work out.
- Characters - Good - George is always a good character and kids love him and his adventures.
- Does Eva Like It - She did her best George impression after we read the book. She tried reading the book with her feet, that cute little monkey of ours.

At our house we love music. We love good music and not that crappy repetitive baby garbage. Eva is growing up with the tunes of Jack Johnson, Jimmy Buffett and the Bare Naked Ladies to name a few. But she really really enjoys Ellis Paul. So when I heard that my friend Lisa was doing a contest to give away That Baby CD and DVD I had to enter. This is a set of songs from known artists that are great for baby and parents. So no Barney and I Love You, You Love Me for us.
I don’t like that Hulu is a week late getting up the episodes of the Baby Borrowers. That means I will be a week behind in my posts about the show. So I guess I should start writing the review part and posting the video and review when the video comes out. That would be smart.
So in this episode we see Sasha lose her mind. She gets a little constructive criticism and freaks out. Swearing and screaming at the mother of the kid they had this week. She turned into a complete mess. And the mother was right, they are not ready to be parents.
Kelly left the house while Austin was in the shower. Great communication skills. We see the nanny has to step in and give him a lecture.
Alicia stepped up and comforted the kid that she was caring for. She is still a self centered person though.
Kelsey had another rough one and this kid was pooping everywhere. It was sick. Poor Kelsey, cleaning someone else’s kid’s poop is horrible.
What I am noticing is that the kids are starting to learn more from this experience. I am more impressed with the boys than the girls though.
Kyle and Brady Baldwin are brothers and Eagle Scouts. They were recently featured in one of those weekend magazines that come in the newspaper. These two brothers started a program called My Own Book. The program gives books to kids who may have never owned a book in their life. I just can’t imagine not having books. But these kids have note a single book in their lives.
Kyle and Brady Baldwin saw that a cycle of illiteracy needed to be stopped and that would start with children. By giving children their very own book talking to them about the library and speaking in classrooms they got kids excited. And then Kyle and Brady got more people excited about this project by doing book drives, asking for donations from publishers and writing for grants. They have also created a website called www.myownbook.net. The website has links to what the two are doing and also how to start your own chapter of the program.
I think this is a fantastic program and I thought about trying to do something similar with new fathers at the hospital. Gathering books for new dads so that they would have some special books to read to their kids. Who kows maybe I could still do something like that.
